Tire sidewall or tread cut
Deep cut on the tire allowing the tube or sealant to escape.
Tools you need
- New inner tube
- Tire levers (×2)
- Improvised inner patch (5 € bill, energy bar wrapper)
- Pump or CO₂
How to fix it, step by step
- Fully deflate the wheel and remove the tire with the levers.
- Find the cut on the inside of the tire. Mark its position.
- Place a 5 € bill or an energy-bar wrapper inside the tire, right over the cut. It acts as an "inner patch" that keeps the tube from bulging out through the hole.
- Fit a new tube (the old one is cut) and seat the tire back on.
- Inflate carefully. If the tire deforms a lot at 3 bar, release pressure and drop to 2 bar.
- Ride gently to the next bike shop. This is an emergency fix, not a permanent one.
